Dear Nicholas:
I was interested to read in your letter of appeal that you were not aware that you were registered in ENIN 301 since you would have put yourself on the waitlist for that course, and an upper year student, should be aware that when space opens up in a course, the student next in line on the wait list will be registered. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ENIN 301 (F 2021) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your letter of appeal and received information that you did not complete any work in the course, I have decided to grant your request.
I have exercised significant leniency in this decision since normally an appeal to drop a course late is based on documented extenuating circumstances. Going forward you will be responsible to check your enrolments fully (both online and on campus). A good practise for all students as well is to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding.
