Dear Sarah Currie:

I was interested to read in your letter of appeal that you have recently received a diagnosis of learning challenges which no doubt impacted your studies prior to receiving this diagnosis. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CLST 103 (W 2019); RELS 237 (F 2019); WRIT 290 (W 2020); ENIN 140 (S 2020); GNDS 311, GNDS 340, GNDS 380, WRIT 250 (F 2020); ENIN 240 (W 2020) and ENIN 340 (S 2021) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on??the documentation provided which confirms your recent diagnosis that has affected your academic performance to date. Going forward you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. The presence of this condition will likely not be grounds for removing failing grades in the future. Instead, I encourage you to meet with an Academic Advisor at the beginning of week 7 each term and to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to week 8. If you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline. Please do not wait until you receive your grades and then request a drop for those that are failures.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
