Decision Letter

Appeal Number: 8055
Decision Date: January 17, 2022
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson
Student Name: Michelle Pakulski
Student Email: 15mfp4@queensu.ca

Dear Michelle,

Having reviewed the new document that was missed in your appeal packet the Associate Dean has revised her previous decision:

1) To GRANT the appeal to drop courses from Winter 2019 (CISC 101, CISC 121) and Fall 2020 (PSYC 473, PHIL 343, LLCU 354, BMED 270). It is understandable in light of the new document from the counsellor that you were impacted by grief at a critical time at the end of those terms. The Associate Dean would like to note in this regard that going forward it is expected that you (either with the help of your counsellor or with QSAS) put in either formal academic accommodations or informal coping supports so that future extenuating circumstances are more manageable. You are reminded to make use of Academic Consideration to defer assignments or exams when your situation becomes acute.

2) To DENY the appeal to drop courses from Winter 2021 (PSYC 320, BMED 270). The rationale for these failed grades relies on the documentation pertaining to oral surgery. From the documentation submitted it is clear that this condition began before the drop date. It is reasonable to expect that if you were experiencing a negative impact on your studies at that time, you should have dropped those affected courses. The Associate Dean determined that this was not an acute extenuating circumstance.

Please let me know if you would like to continue your appeal to the Board of Studies for PSYC 320 and BMED 270 (winter 2021).

I will submit the request for a grade change for winter 2019 and Fall 2020. Please give it up to 10 days for the change to be processed.

Warm regards,

Pam
