Dear Kathryn:
I was very sorry to read in your letter of appeal the challenges you outlined and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PSYC 100 (FW 2018/19) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have granted this appeal based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation which indicates that you are now registered with QSAS who is assisting you with accommodations to help you manage both your health and your academics.
Going forward, please carefully assess your progress in your courses during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop courses by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline. The appeal process is not designed to manage a chronic condition.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding.
