I have carefully considered your appeal to drop GNDS 311, GNDS 380, PSYC 271 and PSYC 333 (Fall 2021) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file and the documentation that you submitted, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control.
Your appeal letter suggests that you did not participate in these classes during the 2021 Fall term due to the impact of your extenuating circumstances however, the information that I received from your instructors indicates that you were able to complete some of the components of these classes during the Fall term. The instructor for PSYC 333 has reported that although you didn??t complete any of the work during the term, you did write the final exam. The instructor of GNDS 311 reports that you completed one of ten required posts during the term and that you connected with them to make the arrangements for handing in the final essay in their class.
I certainly empathize with your situation and am sure this is a disappointing decision however, please know that repeating courses is a recommended strategy if you are concerned about a lower grade impacting your grade point average. When repeating the exact same course, both grades remain on your transcript but only the higher one is included within your cumulative GPA.
