Dear Anand Sanchir:
I have carefully considered your appeal for Credit Standing in BIOL 102 (F20). After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all of the work in the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected.?
I am sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision however, you report in your appeal letter that you were struggling in the course since the beginning of the term. I acknowledge that you were impacted by the news of your grandfather??s illness in November however the academic impact on this class is not made clear from the documentation that you supplied. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control. With the absence of documentation that correlates the impact of an extenuating circumstance with all of your lower grades in this course, I cannot waive this regulation.
If you are concerned about how this grade is affecting your GPA, I want to remind you that if a student repeats a course, both grades will appear on their transcript but only the higher grade will be included within their cumulative GPA.
