Dear Claudia:

I was very sorry to read in your letter of appeal the challenges you outlined, and I have carefully considered your request to drop CISC 121 (F 2018); MATH 112 (W 2019); MATH 121 (S 2019); CISC 124, CISC 204, STAT 263 (F 2019) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your appeal.

I have granted this appeal based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation. I was also pleased to see that you are now registered with QSAS who can help you manage both your health and your academics.

As a reminder, you should carefully assess your progress in your courses during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop courses by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline. The appeal process is not designed to manage a chronic condition.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding.
