Dear Julia:

I was sorry to read of the challenges you have outlined in your letter of appeal, and I have carefully considered your request to drop BCHM 315 (F 2021) past the academic deadline and receive Credit standing in MICR 360 and ANAT 312 (F 2021). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Your grade in MICR 360 and ANAT 312 will appear on your transcript as CR.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances and since you are working with a strong support health care team, but I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems. Instead, I strongly suggest that you use existing supports available including the Academic Consideration Protocol and the deferral process. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline.

Julia, I encourage you to continue to work with your health professional and consider registering with QSAS if you have not done so already. A QSAS Advisor can help you manage both your health and your academics. This could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
