I have carefully considered your appeal for Credit Standing in PHYS 118 (S20). After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
I acknowledge that you have been impacted by mental health issues for multiple years and was glad to read that you are now connected with professional support. I am sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision however, the information supplied by your instructor shows that you were able to achieve high grades on assignments and participation in this class throughout the term despite being impacted by these circumstances. Your lower grades in this class appear to stem from tests and the final exam only. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control. The documentation that you supplied does confirm the presence of an extenuating circumstance, but as it does not correlate the impact of this circumstance with the timeline of your lower grades in this class, I cannot grant this appeal request.
If you are concerned about how this grade is affecting your GPA, I want to remind you that if a student repeats a course, both grades will appear on their transcript but only the higher grade will be included within their cumulative GPA.
