Category: Request an extension of an incomplete grade
Instructor: Jennifer Norton

Dear Lisbet Maclean:

I have carefully considered your appeal for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in FILM 394 (F20). After reviewing your file and the information that I received from your instructor, I have decided the following:

To deny your request for an Extension of an Incomplete in this class. According to Regulation 10.3.4 ??Incomplete standing (IN) is a temporary designation reserved for a course in which a student who, because of extenuating circumstances beyond their control, has not completed all term work for a course or requests permission to defer the writing of a final examination. The student must have participated actively in the class and only one or two elements of the class may be outstanding?. The information that I received from your instructor indicates that there is 100% of the work outstanding in this course. Your instructor reports that you attempted to submit only one assignment during the term but that it was not able to be accessed or graded due to privacy settings within the document. Also, the documentation that you supplied does not verify the timeline, severity or academic impact of your extenuating circumstances during the 2020 Fall term nor does it provide an explanation as to why you didn??t complete the outstanding components of this course during the subsequent 2021 Winter term where you were able to complete other courses successfully.

I understand that this is a disappointing decision, but I am willing to allow you to drop FILM 394 (F20) after the academic deadline based on the documentation that you have provided that attests to an undiagnosed disability prior to you receiving health care support over a year ago. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean??s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines and the 21-day deadline can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on ??Board of Studies?). You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
