Dear Osarumwense Omoruna:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ANAT 409 (W20) after the academic deadline and for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in NSCI 499 (FW 2019/2020), ENGL 161 (F20) and ENGL 162 (W21). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

1) To grant your request to drop ANAT 409 (W20) after the academic deadline. I appreciate that you attempted to complete the outstanding work in this course after your appeal for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in this class was granted. As you had previously demonstrated that your extenuating circumstances impacted this course during the W20 term, I will allow you to drop it at this time. Your grade in this course will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.

2) To grant your request for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in NSCI 499 (FW 2019/2020). I acknowledge that you require this course to graduate and the information that I received from your instructor confirms that you have completed all of the outstanding work. Please connect with Professor Kawaja to make the appropriate arrangements for your outstanding work to be graded.

3) To deny your request for an Extension of an Incomplete in ENGL 161 (F20) and ENGL 162 (W21). I understand that you were provided with an Incomplete Grade in ENGL 161 so that you could complete it during the Winter 2021 term (along with ENGL 162). I also understand from the email correspondence that you provided within this appeal request, that you had connected with the Department of English and the instructor of these courses in August to make the arrangements for your final work to be submitted and graded at that time. The information that I received from your instructor indicates that they did not receive the outstanding work by the end of the 2021 Summer term and that there is still more than half of the work outstanding in each of these courses (55% outstanding in each). I recognize that the documentation that you supplied suggests that you should be continued to be accommodated while you are engaged in treatment but as you know, the appeal process is not meant to manage a chronic condition. Your documentation does not provide an explanation as to why you were unable to complete these courses during the 2021 Winter or 2021 Summer terms where I see that you were able to complete other courses successfully.

I understand that this is a disappointing decision, but I am willing to allow you to drop ENGL 161 (F20) and ENGL 162 (W21) after the academic deadline instead. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
