Dear Sarah,

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop STAT 263 (Fall 2021)) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

During the appeal of this decision, new information came to light and the possibility was raised that in good faith you never attended or participated in STAT 263. This was not at all clear in the first level appeal. With the additional confirmation from the instructor, I have decided to overturn the original decision and grant your appeal to drop STAT 263 (Fall 2021).

This is a lenient compassionate decision because you are a first-year student, and it appears that in good faith you did not participate in STAT 263 and did indeed believe that it had been dropped. An appeal based on the same circumstances may not be granted in the future.

Going forward, I recommend that you pause and evaluate your courses during week 7 of each term, and if need be, drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the Important Dates section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students at Queen's.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
