Dear Alyah:
I am sorry to have read of the challenges you experienced during Fall term and I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Aegrotat Standing in ANAT 315 (F 2021) based on those circumstances. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
Alyah, the instructor has advised our office that your current grade (35%/85%) demonstrates that you have not met the learning outcomes in this course and that, even if you attempted to complete the outstanding requirement (1st mid-term worth 14%), you would still not be able to earn a passing grade. I am however willing to drop this course late based on your extenuating circumstances. If you wish to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within the next 21 days.
Going forward, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline. Please do not wait until you receive your grades and then request a drop for those that are failures.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).
Student Academic Appeals Policy (SAAP) or Rules of Procedure for USAB are Queen??s university Senate approved appeal policies. In the event that an inconsistency arises between these policies and Arts & Science regulations, SAAP and USAB will supersede.
