Decision Date: May 10, 2022
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Lauren Spencer
Student Email: 20laks@queensu.ca

Course: ENGL 215
Term: Fall/Winter
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Lauren:

I was very sorry to read in your letter of appeal that you continued to experience health related challenges during the Winter term. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ENGL 215 (FW 2021/22) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation. I was also pleased to see that you are in the process of registering with QSAS who will be able to assist you with implementing accommodations which will help you manage both your challenges and your academics.

As noted previously, you should carefully assess your progress in your courses during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop courses by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline. The appeal process is not designed to manage a chronic condition.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Best of luck in your degree progression.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
