Dear Alexandra:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal that you had a difficult term and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ARTH 350, HIST 214, HIST 252, HIST 283 (W 2022) and HIST 124 (FW 2021/22) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

To grant your request to drop HIST 214, HIST 252, HIST 283 (W 2022) and HIST 124 (FW 2021/22) past the academic deadline however, I need to warn you that additional appeals based on the same extenuating circumstances may not be granted in the future. It is your responsibility to mange your health and your academics and make decisions about dropping courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline during the academic year.

I am also willing to allow you Credit Standing in ARTH 350 (W22) as I see that you had successfully completed this course and so are not eligible to drop it. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.

Alexandra, I want to caution you with regards to your summer term courses. Three courses exceed our recommend course load of two courses during the summer term, so I would strongly encourage you to watch the summer term drop deadlines and, if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by those deadlines.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Alexandra, I strongly encourage you continue to work with a health professional and to proactively manage the impact of your condition on your academics. If this is a chronic condition, please talk to your counsellor about the possibility of registering with QSAS.
