I have carefully considered your appeal to drop IDIS 280 (W22) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control.
I am certainly sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision however, the documentation that you provided indicates that the timeline of your extenuating circumstances impacted your academic ability between January 28 ?? February 21, 2022, before the deadline to drop this course. I acknowledge that you had some catching up to do in IDIS 280 (W22) however I want to stress that it is your responsibility as a student to evaluate your progress in your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and to consider dropping classes if you find that you cannot keep up with their academic demands.
If you are concerned about how this grade is affecting your GPA, I want to remind you that if a student repeats a course, both grades will appear on their transcript but only the higher grade will be included within their cumulative GPA.
