I have carefully considered your appeal to drop STAT 263 (W22) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control.
I acknowledge that you were unable to write the final exam in this course due to the impacts of your extenuating circumstances at the time however, you were accommodated appropriately by your instructor with a deferred exam date. It is my understanding that you wrote the final exam on the deferred date despite your reports of not being adequately prepared for such exam. I am certainly sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision however, I want to remind you that it is never recommended for a student to write an exam while unwell or experiencing extenuating circumstances.
If you are concerned about how this grade is affecting your GPA, I want to remind you that if a student repeats a course, both grades will appear on their transcript but only the higher grade will be included within their cumulative GPA.
