Dear Hannah:

I was sorry to read of the extenuating circumstances you outlined in your letter of appeal and I have reviewed your request to drop PHIL 153 (F 2021) and ENGL 356, PHIL 276 (W 2022) after the drop deadline, as well as change the grade you received in ENGL 290 (F 2021) to Aegrotat standing. After careful consideration of the documentation you submitted and the information supplied by your instructor about the learning outcomes achieved in ENGL 290, I have decided to grant your appeal.

The instructor of ENGL 290 has submitted a replacement grade based on the work you have completed, which will appear on your transcript as A along with the notation ??Aegrotat: estimated grade?.

Going forward, you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
