Dear Amarpreet:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal of the circumstances you outlined and I have reviewed your request to change the grade you received in CANC 380 (W 2022) to Credit standing. After careful consideration of your appeal and the information I received from your instructor, I have decided to grant your appeal. Your grade in this course will appear on your transcript as CR.

I would like to note that I have exercised some leniency in this decision, acknowledging the challenges of this past year but future appeals will require documentation which would help support the timeline, severity, and impact that your extenuating circumstances had on your studies.

Going forward, I suggest that you pause and evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of the term and if you have fallen behind in your course work or are struggling with your academics, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop date deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:

I also encourage you to utilize the various services available to you including academic supports from SASS and personal counselling services available through our Student Wellness Services.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
