Dear Yue Qian:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop MATH 280, MATH 231 (F21), MATH 281 and MATH 210 (W22) after the academic deadline and for Credit Standing in STAT 268 (F21) and STAT 269 (W22). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

To grant your request to drop MATH 280, MATH 231 (F21), MATH 281 and MATH 210 (W22) after the academic deadline, as the documentation that you supplied confirms that although you were being accommodated by Queen??s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS), these accommodations did not meet your academic needs at that time.

To deny your request for Credit Standing in STAT 268 (F21) and STAT 269 (W22) as the information supplied by your instructor shows that you were able to achieve high grades on some components in these classes throughout the term despite being impacted by your extenuating circumstances. Your lower grades in these classes appear to stem from tests and exams only. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control.

I acknowledge that the documentation that you supplied confirms the presence of an extenuating circumstance during the 2021 Fall and 2022 Winter terms, however it does not correlate the impact of these circumstances with the timeline of your lower grades in these classes. If you are concerned about how these grades are affecting your GPA, I want to remind you that if a student repeats a course, both grades will appear on their transcript but only the higher grade will be included within their cumulative GPA.
