Dear Chelsea Lee:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop FILM 340 (F21) and GPHY 229 (W22) after the academic deadline and for Standing in CISC 223 and FILM 240 (F21). After reviewing your file and the information that I received from your instructors, I have decided the following:

To grant your request to drop FILM 340 (F21) and GPHY 229 (W22) after the academic deadline. Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.

To deny your request for Aegrotat Standing in CISC 223 and FILM 240 (F21). Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60% of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)?. The information that I received from your instructor of FILM 240 indicates that you had only completed 50% of the work in this course and are therefore not eligible for this academic appeal option. The information that I received from your instructor of CISC 223 indicates that you were accommodated appropriately for the 29% of outstanding components in this class as your final exam was re-weighed according.

I understand that this is a disappointing decision, but I am willing to allow you to drop CISC 223 and FILM 240 (F21) after the academic deadline based on the timeline and impacts of your extenuating circumstances during the months of November and December of 2021. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean??s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines and the 21-day deadline can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on ??Board of Studies?). You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).

??Student Academic Appeals Policy (SAAP) or Rules of Procedure for USAB are Queen??s university Senate approved appeal policies. In the event that an inconsistency arises between these policies and Arts & Science regulations, SAAP and USAB will supersede.??

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
