Dear Yannick:

I was sorry to read of the extenuating circumstances you outlined in your letter of appeal and I have reviewed your request to drop MATH 427 (W 2022) after the drop deadline, as well as change the grade you received in MATH 433 (W 2022) to Aegrotat standing. After careful consideration of the documentation you submitted, and the information supplied by your instructor about the learning outcomes achieved in MATH 433, I have decided to grant your appeal.

The instructor of MATH 433 advised me that the 25% portion of the course not completed was a final group project which can no longer be completed or replaced with any other assignment because it was a group assignment so I can see that completing the course requirement in not feasible during this current summer term. The instructor of this course has submitted a replacement grade based on the work you have completed, which will appear on your transcript as B- along with the notation ??Aegrotat: estimated grade?.

Going forward, you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Yannick, if this becomes a chronic condition, I encourage you to continue to work with a QSAS??Advisor??who can put into place appropriate ongoing accommodations to help you manage the impact of your health on your academics.
