Dear Madeline McDermott:
I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Credit standing in MATH 211 (FW2021/2022) After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed all of the work of the course including the final examination, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower?.
I acknowledge that you were impacted with multiple extenuating circumstances during the 2021/2022 academic year however, according to the grade breakdown as provided by your instructor, it is difficult to see a correlation between all of your lower grades in this class with these reported extenuating circumstances.
I want to remind you that you did receive Academic Consideration in December of 2021 for your Covid-19 illness, yet I don??t see any other Consideration requests from you during the 2022 Winter term. I recognize that you also experienced an unexpected health issue in April however you chose to write the final exam despite this circumstance. I certainly sympathize with your situation and understand that this is a difficult decision however with the absence of documentation to confirm the impacts of an extenuating circumstances on your other lower grades in this course such as the March Midterm, and the 2nd Term Assignments, I cannot grant this request. I want to remind you that it is your responsibility to utilize appropriate academic options such as Academic Consideration to request an extension of a deadline or a deferral of an exam as it is never recommended that a student write an exam while they are unwell.
