Decision Date: June 22, 2022
Associate Dean: 0
Student Name: Haruna Hirotani
Student Email: 19hh45@queensu.ca
Course: STAT263
Term: Winter
Year: 2022
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Instructor: Charles Molson
Dear Haruna:
On June 22, the Board of Studies reviewed your appeal of Associate Dean (Academic) Jenn Stephenson??s decision to deny your request to drop STAT 263 (Winter 2022) after the deadline. Board members present that day were Johanne Bénard (Chair), Elizabeth Goodyear-Grant (Faculty member), Kai Salomaa (Faculty member), and Emma Farrell (Student representative). Pamela Briand (Arts and Science resource staff) was also present.
At this meeting, after carefully reviewing all written submissions contained in the file, the Board voted to overturn the Associate Dean??s decision to deny your appeal request to drop STAT 263 (Winter 2022) after the deadline. We agreed with the Associate Dean that, in April, you were accommodated properly by your instructor by being given the opportunity to write a deferred exam but, unlike the Associate Dean, we had questions about your familiarity with the process of using Academic Consideration to defer a deferred exam, which would have been the best option in your case given your extenuating circumstances related to your family situation. This means your appeal was successful, and you will be granted DR status for STAT 263 (Winter 2022).
On behalf of the Board of Studies, I would like to wish you every success as you pursue your educational and career goals.
Sincerely,
Johanne Bénard
Chair, Board of Studies
