I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ASTR 101 (F21) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
I am sympathetic to your situation and understand that this is a disappointing decision however, the documentation that you supplied confirms that your extenuating circumstances were ongoing before the academic drop deadline of the Fall term. As you know, the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling reasons indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond their control.
I want to remind you that the final exam for ASTR 101 is traditionally challenging and that many students succeed in the term work however don??t do as well on the final exam. As you were accommodated appropriately with a deferred exam into January and your documentation does not specify a specific impact on this deferred final exam, I cannot grant this request.
If you are concerned with the impacts of your grade in this class on your cumulative GPA, you may want to consider repeating ASTR 101 in a future term. When a student repeats the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on their transcript however only the highest grade will be included within the calculation of their cumulative GPA.
