I was sorry to read about the challenges you outlined in your letter of appeal and I have carefully considered your request to drop CHEM 213 (F 2021) and CHEM 223 (W 2022) past the academic deadline as well as receive credit standing in CHEM 212 (F 2021) and MATH 111 (FW 2021/22). After reviewing your file and the support from your instructors, I have decided to grant your request. Your grade in CHEM 212 and MATH 111 will appear on your transcript as CR.
I have granted this appeal based on your extenuating circumstances, but I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing challenges. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter challenges, or whose challenges become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I encourage you to continue to work with your counsellor as needed. You may want to discuss with your counsellor the possibility of registering with QSAS. A QSAS Advisor can put in place accommodations that should help you manage both your health and academics. This could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term and dropping courses by the drop deadline.
Based on the input I received from your instructors, it seems that you may struggle with exams Ayden, so another resource that may be able to assist you with exam preparation is the Student Academic Success Service (SASS) and I encourage you to reach out to that office for assistance as well.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding.
