I am sorry to have read of the circumstances outlined in your appeal and I have carefully considered your request to drop ENGL 100 (FW 2021/22) after the drop date and receive Credit standing in PHIL 111, PSYC 100 (FW 2021/22); COGS 100, GEOL 104 (W 2022). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:
1. To grant your request to drop ENGL 100 (FW 2021/22) based the circumstances outlined.
2. To grant your request to for Credit standing in PSYC 100 (FW 2021/22) and COGS 100 W 2022) based on your extenuating circumstances and the input received from your instructors in those courses, confirming the learning outcomes were achieved.
3. To deny your request for Credit standing in PHIL 111 (FW 2021/22) since the grade earned demonstrates the learning outcomes achieved and since, according to your instructors, you did not complete all the course deliverables. The instructors of this course did note that if you were able to show them that you were doing the readings and attending the lectures, but merely failed to turn in assignments that are ready to submit now, they may be willing to accept them. To pursue this offer, you should reach out to Professor Sismondo within the next 14 days to discuss this.
4. To deny your request for Credit standing in GEOL 104 (W 2022). The instructor of this course also advised that you did not complete the deliverables in this course noting that more assignments were missed than completed.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all of the work in the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.? Credit standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student??s control. The Regulations note that the integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control.
Abby, for your information, if a student repeats a course, the higher grade will be included with the GPA and the lower grade will be excluded.
