I am sorry to read in your letter of appeal that you have encountered challenges this summer which has impacted your ANAT 100 (S 2022) course. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop that course past the academic deadline and after reviewing your appeal, I have decided to grant your request.
I have exercised some leniency in this decision since IT related challenges are not normally considered extenuating in nature. I do however acknowledge the difficult challenges you have outlined.
Going forward, should you take additional courses from Queen??s, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in courses by the drop deadline and if you are finding the material too difficult or have not kept up with the course work, you should drop the course by that deadline. The drop deadline is set to allow students plenty of time to assess their progress in a class and withdraw without any academic penalty if they feel that they cannot keep up with the demands or have the academic background needed to successfully complete it.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding.
