I have carefully considered your appeal to drop IDIS 373 (S22) after the academic deadline and for Aegrotat Standing in SOCY 511 and SOCY 428 (W22). After reviewing your file and the information that I received from your instructors, I have decided the following:
To deny your request to drop IDIS 373 (S22) after the academic deadline. As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. It is the student??s responsibility to assess their progress in their classes before the drop deadline of each term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by the deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students. I am sympathetic to your situation however, the documentation that you supplied indicates that you have been experiencing an ongoing extenuating circumstance that began before the Summer term started. As you were aware of the impacts of such circumstance before the drop deadline of the term and your appeal didn??t demonstrate why you were not able to drop this course by the deadline, I have denied this request.
To deny your request for Aegrotat Standing in SOCY 511 and SOCY 428 (W22). Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60% of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)?. I acknowledge that you have been impacted with an ongoing circumstance for some time now however your appeal didn??t demonstrate that you are not able to complete the final assignments in these classes, especially as you plan to continue with your studies during the 2022 Fall term.
I understand that this is a disappointing decision, but I am willing to allow you an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in these classes so that you can complete both outstanding assignments during the 2022 Fall term along with the 3.0 unit course you plan to repeat. It is your responsibility to connect with both Professor Abrams (SOCY 511) at thomas.abrams@queensu.ca and Fiona Kay (SOCY 428) within the Department of Sociology at kayf@queensu.ca to make these arrangements.
