Dear Daniil:
I am sorry to have read of the challenges you reported in your letter of appeal, and I have carefully considered your request to receive Aegrotat Standing in CLST 205 (S 2022) and drop WRIT 120 (S 2022) based on those circumstances. After reviewing your file I have decided the following:
?? To grant your request to drop WRIT 120 (S 2022) based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.
?? To deny your request for Aegrotat standing in CLST 205. Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60% of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)?. Aegrotat standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student??s control and the learning outcomes of the course have been satisfied. Additionally, circumstances and documentation should be provided as to why the student is unable to complete the course during the following term of which the course was originally offered.
Daniil, you mention that you feel that completing CLST 205 during Fall term would be too much work on top of your current courses. If that is the case, you may want to consider dropping one of your Fall term courses so that you can manage the completion of CLST 205. The instructor has advised me that she is kindly willing to let you complete the outstanding course deliverables in this course and I urge you to discuss that option with Professor Callon directly.
Going forward, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
