I have carefully considered your appeal to add ANAT 100, BIOL 103 and LAW 207 (F22) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s ability to add a course within the deadline was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond their control.
An extenuating circumstance normally involve an unexpected significant physical or psychological event that is beyond your control and debilitating to your overall academic performance. Additionally, these kinds of extraordinary situations are normally supported by documentation from a professional. The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload.
I understand that you were unable to travel to Kingston due to Visa issues that you discovered in August however, I want to remind you that students could enroll in their Fall and Winter term classes beginning in July. Your specific enrollment date began on July 18, 2022 and I don??t see any attempts in your SOLUS history to enroll in Fall term classes during the Summer months at all.
I am sympathetic to your situation and recognize that you are anxious to start classes however, looking at your transcript, I see that you were unsuccessful in completing any of your 2022 Winter term classes. Adding a class during week 4 of a 12 week term would not be in your best interest and we did not receive support from any of the instructors of the classes that you have requested. I suggest that if you intend to return to your studies in January, that you enroll in classes for the upcoming 2023 Winter term as soon as possible.
