I have carefully considered your appeal to drop RELS 131, BIOL 111 (S22), for Credit Standing in ECON 111 (S22) and for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in SPAN 111 (W22). After reviewing your file and the information that I received from your instructors, I have decided the following:
To grant your requests to drop RELS 131, BIOL 111 (S22) and for Credit Standing in ECON 111 (S22) due to the severity and academic impacts of your extenuating circumstances during the 2022 Summer term as confirmed by the documentation that you had supplied. Going forward, I suggest that you pause to evaluate your academic progress during week 7 of the term and make sure to drop courses that you have fallen behind in or find the material too difficult in by week 8 of the term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.
To deny your request for an Extension of an Incomplete in SPAN 111 (W22). According to Regulation 10.3.4 ??Incomplete standing (IN) is a temporary designation reserved for a course in which a student who, because of extenuating circumstances beyond their control, has not completed all term work for a course or requests permission to defer the writing of a final examination. The student must have participated actively in the class and only one or two elements of the class may be outstanding?. The information that I received from your instructor indicates that you did not attend any of the classes during the Winter term and that you did not complete most of the work including the in-class assessment, test 2 and the final test. I also see that you were accommodated appropriately by the instructor through Academic Consideration.
I understand that this is a disappointing decision however, as the documentation that you supplied suggests that you have been experiencing a chronic disability, I am willing to allow you to drop SPAN 111 (W22) after the academic deadline instead. Please know that this was a lenient decision and that a future appeal for these same circumstances may not be as successful. Going forward, I would suggest that you consider registering with Queen??s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS), if you haven??t done so already, so that you can work with a Counsellor to manage the impacts of your health on your academics.
