Student Name: Thomas Crozier
Student Email: 18tjc2@queensu.ca

Course: BIOL 321
Term: Winter
Year: 2022
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Thomas:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal that you had a severe hand injury during Winter term 2022, which no doubt impacted your ability to complete some of your courses. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop BIOL 321 (W 2022) based on that circumstance, and after reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

Thomas, I have granted this appeal based on the documentation submitted related to your hand injury. You also mention that you have struggled with chronic mental health challenges, and I encourage you to reach out to QSAS if you would like to put in place accommodations to help support your academics as well as your health. I also encourage you to continue to work with your health care professional to manage your condition.

Going forward, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses during week 7 of each term. If you have fallen behind or are not performing to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop date deadline. Dropping courses late is normally reserved for students who experienced new or acute extenuating circumstances after the drop date deadline.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
