Dear Briana:

I have reviewed your request to complete your degree requirements at York University on a Letter of Permission for your BA (Honours) degree with a Major concentration in Sociology and a Minor in Gender Studies. As you know, Regulation 14.4 indicates that ??normally the last two years of the Honours degree are taken in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen??s.? However, given the circumstances explained in your letter of appeal, and the support of your Plan Departments, I agree to this request with the following caveat: If you wish to complete your Minor in Gender Studies, you must take 18.0 of your Plan units from Queen??s, so only 12.0 from your GNDS Plan can be completed on an LOP. Of course, you can choose to not complete the Minor in Gender Studies, but if you wish to do so, the regulation which requires the majority of your Plan requirements be completed at Queen??s will stand. Please consult with your department regularly to ensure that the courses you select will properly fulfill the Queen??s requirements for your degree.

You may now apply for a Letter of Permission. Please allow up to 21 days to receive a response.

Note that official transcripts with final grades must be received upon completion of the courses so they can facilitate the transfer of those courses to Queen??s. Please keep in mind that you must achieve a minimum grade of C on each course taken on a Letter of Permission, unless stated otherwise.

Finally, I would suggest that you meet with an Academic Advisor to review your remaining degree requirements once you decide whether you will drop your Winter term 2023 courses and begin your studies on an LOP at that point, or complete Winter term at Queen??s and begin your studies on an LOP starting Fall term 2023.

I wish you well in your studies this term, and while attending York University.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
