Dear Jessica Oppong:

I have carefully considered your petition to drop PHIL 405 (F22) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I acknowledge that you have enrolled in an alternate PHIL course in the 2023 Winter term that will meet your plan requirements and that you are on track to graduate in the Spring of 2023. I want you to know that this was a lenient decision as your documentation indicates that the extenuating circumstances related to your friends health condition began well before the deadline to drop this course and competing commitments such as Law School applications are not typically grounds for an appeal.

Going forward, you should pause to evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on your studies during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
