Dear Sonali:

I am sorry to have read in your petition letter that you have continued to struggle this term and that there are continued repercussion from a traumatic event that took place last year. I have carefully considered your request to drop RELS 163 (W 2022) and STAT 263 (F 2022) past the academic deadline based on the circumstances outlined. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this petition based on the??documentation provided from Ms. Lotan which supports your request and indicates that recovery from the traumatic event is taking longer than anticipated.

Going forward, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline. The appeal process is not meant to manage a chronic situation.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol, which I see you utilized. As you know, a student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Sonali, I strongly encourage you continue to work with Ms. Lotan and to discuss with her the possibility of registering with QSAS if you are not currently registered with that service.
