Dear Jack,

I am sorry to have read in your petition letter that of the challenges you outlined, and I have carefully considered your request to drop ECON 111, CISC 102, CISC 101 (F 2021); MATH 121 (FW 2021/22); SPAN 111, PHIL 153, ECON 112 (W 2022); and CISC 102, CLST 102, CISC 121 (F 2022) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this petition based on the??documentation provided which notes that you have met with Student Counselling, and I expect that you will continue to meet with them to manage your condition.

Going forward, you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the petition process. The petition process is not meant to manage a chronic condition. Instead, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:

Jack, I strongly encourage you continue to work with a health professional and to proactively manage the impact of your condition on your academics. If you have not yet registered with QSAS, I encourage you to do so since a QSAS??Advisor??can help put into place appropriate accommodations to help you manage the impact of your challenges on your academics.??

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Best of luck in your courses this term.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
