I am sorry to have read of your extenuating circumstances in your petition letter and I have carefully considered your request to drop CISC 124 (F 2022) past the academic deadline and receive an extension of an Incomplete grade in CHEM 281 (F 2022). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have granted this petition based on the??documentation provided as well as the input from Professor Carran and his willingness to extend the IN grade until the end of June 2023, thus permitting you to write the deferred exam in CHEM 281 with the Summer term 2023 students. It is your responsibility to contact Professor Carran to make appropriate arrangements regarding the writing of that deferred exam.
Going forward, you will be responsible for managing the impact of your challenges on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the petition process. The petition process is not meant to help a student manage ongoing issues. Instead, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Sebastian, I strongly encourage you continue to work with a health professional and to proactively manage the impact of your challenges on your academics. If you have not yet registered with QSAS, I encourage you to speak with your health professional about that option since a QSAS??Advisor??can put into place appropriate accommodations to help you manage the impact of your challenges on your academics.??
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
