Dear Georgia:

I was sorry to read about the health-related challenges you outlined in your petition letter and I have carefully considered your request to drop MATH 121 (FW 2021/22; RELS 131, WRIT 120 (S 2022); STAT 361 (F 2022) past the academic deadline and receive credit standing in STAT 268 (F 2021); MATH 337, MATH 339 (W 2022); FREN 392 (S 2022). After reviewing your file as well as the support from your instructors regarding the learning outcomes achieved, I have decided to grant your request. Your grade in STAT 268, MATH 337, MATH 339, and FREN 392 will appear on your transcript as CR.

I have granted this petition based on your extenuating circumstances, but I need to warn you that the petition process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing challenges but is designed for students who encounter challenges, or whose challenges become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I would encourage you to continue to work with your health care professionals, including your QSAS Advisor, to manage both your health and academics. This could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term and dropping courses which are affected by your extenuating circumstances.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
