I have carefully considered your petition to add MATH 401, MATH 328, STAT 353, and HIST 109 (W23) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload. Appeal and Petition Regulation 3.3.1.1. states that ??a petition to add a class late must have support from the Undergraduate Chair of the relevant department and from the class instructor.?
I recognize the seriousness of your extenuating circumstances and I commend you for the support that you provided your family member during this difficult time. I acknowledge that you plan to pursue an Honours plan in the future however I want to remind you that you are currently on probation within the General plan that you are registered to. As you know, your academic standing will be assessed in May of 2023 and I am concerned that enrolling in additional courses during week 3 of the Winter term would not be beneficial to you at this time. I have denied this request due to your current academic standing and the recent failures that I see from your Fall term courses. I also regret to inform you that that we did not obtain strong support from the instructors of these requested courses.
I understand that this is a disappointing decision however, I encourage you to meet with an Academic Advisor to discuss your current academic standing and create an academic plan to help you reach your goals. You can book this appointment through the Faculty of Arts and Science website at https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/undergraduate/student-services/advising. I also want to remind you of the support services that you can access through Queen??s while you complete your currently enrolled Winter term class:

The Student Wellness Services Centre https://www.queensu.ca/studentwellness/ located in Mitchell Hall, is available to all Queen??s students. SWS offers personal and counselling as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.
