Dear Olivia:

I was sorry to read about the challenges you outlined in your petition letter, and I have carefully considered your request to drop PSYC 271 (F 2021), MATH 112 (W 2022), and ECON 243 (W 2022) past the academic deadline as well as receive credit standing in ECON 212, EMPR (W 2022) and MATH 121 (S 2022). After reviewing your file as well as the support received from your instructors regarding the learning outcomes achieved, I have decided to grant your request. Your grade in ECON 212, EMPR 270 and MATH 121 will appear on your transcript as CR.

I have granted this petition based on your extenuating circumstances, but I need to warn you that the petition process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing challenges but is designed for students who encounter challenges, or whose challenges become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I would encourage you to continue to work with your health care professionals, and, if you have not done so already, consider registering with QSAS who can help you manage both your health and academics. This could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term and dropping courses which are affected by your extenuating circumstances.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
