Dear Cassandra:

I am sorry to have read of the challenges you reported in your petition letter, and I have carefully considered your request to receive Aegrotat Standing in CHEM 221 (W 2022) based on those circumstances. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.

Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60% of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)?. Aegrotat standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student??s control and the learning outcomes of the course have been satisfied. I have been advised by the instructor of this course that, combining both experimental and theoretical components, you completed only 50% of??the work required for the course and that the learning outcomes have not been satisfied.

I am however sympathetic to your circumstances so would be willing to drop this course late or, the instructor has agreed to offer you an Incomplete grade, so you could complete the balance of the course requirements this term. Please advise me within 15 business days of your decision and we will proceed accordingly.

Going forward, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in a course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
