Dear Connor:
I have carefully considered your petition to drop PHYS 117 (FW 2021/22) past the academic deadline and based on your circumstances and the documentation submitted, I have decided to grant your request.
I am also willing to offer you Credit standing in BIOL 103 (W 2022); CHEM 112 and MATH 121 (FW 2021/22). Credit standing is a petition option for students who passed courses with grades between C to D- but earned these lower grades due to their extenuating circumstances. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 15 business days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript replacing the current grades in those courses with a CR notation. This means you get credit for the courses, but the grades would no longer negatively impact your GPA.
Connor, I am granting this petition and offering you credit standing in your other courses since recovery from concussions can be challenging, but I am concerned that your grades were not significantly stronger in the Fall term 2022. I suggest that you discuss with your health care provider the possibility of registering with QSAS, if you are not currently registered with them. A QSAS Advisor can help put in place accommodations which may help you manage both your health and your academics.
Going forward, you should assess your progress in your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or your health is impacting your courses, you should drop courses by the drop deadline. The petition process is not meant to manage your academics.
Another tool to help you manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding.
