Although I have decided to waive the deadline to submit your petition request, I want to stress that according to the Academic Petitions and Appeals Regulation 1.1 at https://www.queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/appeal-regulations/ petitions and appeals are only granted where there are significantly extenuating circumstances, which would merit the waiving of a particular Faculty regulation or decision. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control.
I want you to know that it may not be possible to obtain instructor input in the courses that you will be petitioning due to how much time has passed since the term has ended. Some of the courses that you include in your subsequent petition may not be able to be assessed.
Within your request, you should include a letter that explains the reasons for the petition. It is important that your letter explains both the timeline of your extenuating circumstances and how the courses that you are petitioning were impacted during that time. If your extenuating circumstances began before the academic drop deadline of the term, you should also comment on why you didn??t drop these classes by such deadlines. Your supporting documentation does not need to outline the specifics of the particular condition or matter affecting you but should confirm the timeline of your extenuating circumstances and indicate the ways in which the extenuating circumstances directly affected your academic performance.
