Dear Caroline:

I was sorry to read of the difficulties you outlined in your petition letter and after carefully considering your request to drop ENGL 100 and ENGL 200 (FW 2022/23) past the academic deadline, I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.

I am also willing to drop ENGL 100, FILM 260 (S 2022) and ENGL 281 (F 2022) based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation. If you wish to accept this offer, please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca within 15 business days of receiving this letter.

For your information, our office will process the late drop in your SOLUS account and no further action from you is required. Once dropped, the course will appear as ??withdrawn? in your schedule and a ??DR? notation will be placed on your transcript once the Winter term grades are released in May.

I have granted this petition based on your extenuating circumstances and since you are working with a health care provider regarding your challenges. I do need to warn you however that the petition process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. A petition based on the same circumstances may not be granted in the future. Going forward, I recommend that you pause and evaluate your health during week 7 of each term, and if you have fallen behind or your health is impacting your studies, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students at Queen's.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
