I have carefully considered your petition for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in FILM 455 (F21). After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control.
I want to remind you of your previous academic petition request 9654 where you requested to drop FILM 455 (F21) after the academic deadline. That request was denied as your extenuating circumstances began before the term had started and it was your responsibility to drop courses that were impacted before the academic drop deadline. While I acknowledge your reports that the impacts of your extenuating circumstances worsened in November of 2021, I see from the documentation that you supplied that you were provided with a treatment plan before the 2022 Winter term began. It is unclear why you were not able to complete this course through an Incomplete Grade during the 2022 Winter term along with your professional internship.
I have denied this request as Academic Petition and Appeal Regulation 3.7.2 states that ??subsequent appeals cannot be submitted for a term that has already been the subject of a previous appeal?. As you have already petitioned FILM 455 (F21), I cannot grant an extension of an incomplete grade in this course.
I understand that this is a disappointing decision however I see that you are on track to meet your degree requirements upon successful completion of your currently enrolled 2022 Fall and 2023 Winter term courses. I want to remind you that repeating courses is a recommended strategy if you are concerned about a lower grade impacting your grade point average. When repeating the exact same course, both grades remain on your transcript but only the higher one is included within your cumulative GPA.
