Dear Mr. Lee:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ECON 222, MATH 232 (W 2014), ECON 250, ECON 255 and ECON 360 (W 2015) past the academic deadline as well as receive Aegrotat standing in PHIL 256 (W 2014), PHIL 257B and PHIL 261 (W 2015). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant all of your requests with the exception of PHIL 257.

To be eligible for Aegrotat standing, the student must have completed at least 60 of the work required for the course but not has not completed the course in full. If granted, the student€™s final grade will be posted as the estimated grade based on the work completed to date. According to Dr. Kumar, you have completed all of the work required for this course and you have earned a final grade of C. Therefore, Aegrotat standing does not apply in your circumstances.

Your instructors in PHIL 256 and PHIL 261 have already provided replacement grades based on the work you have completed which will appear on your transcript as B and C+, respectively.

Given the circumstances described in your appeal letter and documentation, I would strongly recommend that you consider pursuing a part-time course load next year. Taking 3 courses per term will still allow you to hold full-time student status according to the University guidelines and will allow you the time you need to recover and manage your health condition.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
