Dear Xinrong:

I was sorry to read of the extenuating circumstances you outlined in your petition letter, and I have reviewed your request to drop PSYC 100 (FW 2022/23) after the drop deadline, as well as receive credit standing in ENGL 100 (FW 2022/23). After careful consideration of the documentation you submitted, and the information supplied by your instructor about the learning outcomes achieved in ENGL 100, I have decided to grant your petition.

Your grade in ENGL 100 will be changed to a CR notation on your transcript, indicating credit standing. Your grade in PSYC 100 will be changed to a DR notation, indicating that this course has been dropped late.

Going forward, you will be responsible for managing the impact of your circumstances on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the petition process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline. The drop deadlines, outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students. Future petitions based on these same circumstances may not be granted in the future.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
