Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Miranda James,

I have reviewed your petition to drop CHEM 112 (FW22/23) and ANAT 100 (W23) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a ?DR?? notation on your transcript.

I want you to know that this was a lenient decision as your extenuating circumstances began before the drop deadline of the Winter term. I have granted this request due to the circumstances that you described in your petition letter and as I acknowledge that this is your first year at University. I want to remind you that it is the student??s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Before you return to studies in the Fall term, I encourage you to connect with an Academic Advisor to develop an academic plan for success in your next year of study. You can review academic resources and book an appointment with an Advisor on this website queensu.ca/artsci/undergraduate/student-services/advising.

Due to the ongoing academic impacts of your circumstances in the 2023 Winter term as confirmed by the documentation that you supplied, I am also willing to allow you to drop ANAT 100, BIOL 102 (F22), and PHAR 100 (W23) after the academic deadline and for Credit Standing in BIOL 102, BIOL 103, and PSYC 100 (FW22/23). If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca within 10 business days of receiving this letter.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
