Dear Matteya:
I am sorry to have read of the circumstances outlined in your petition and I have carefully considered your request to drop SOCY 122 (FW 2019/20); SOCY 122 (FW 2021/22); HLTH 101, EMPR 100, DEVS 101, ANSH 101 (F 2022) after the drop deadline as well as receive Credit standing in ARTF 101 (S 2022). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
1. To grant your request to drop SOCY 122 (FW 2021/22) and HLTH 101, EMPR 100, DEVS 101, ANSH 101 (F 2022) based the circumstances outlined and documentation provided.
2. To deny your request to drop SOCY 122 (FW 2019/20) since students were given ample time to request a passing grade (P) or a late drop (DR) due to covid related challenges for several months after the end of term 2020. Additionally, your previous petition related to GNDS 125 (F 2019), which was granted in January 2020, is an indicator that you were aware of your health related challenges before the drop deadline during winter term 2020 and you could have dropped the 2019/20 SOCY 122 course prior to that deadline if your health was impacting your studies.
3. To deny your request for Credit standing in ARTF 101 (S 2022) since there are too many assignments missing.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all of the work in the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course and demonstrated that the learning outcomes were achieved, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.?
Going forward, let me remind you that it is the student??s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Another tool to manage your academics is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:
